WhatsApp Will Allow Users to Edit Sent Messages, Much Like iMessage

WhatsApp Sent Message Edit

Users of WhatsApp will soon have the ability to edit sent messages, similar to what is available on iMessage.

The famous encrypted messaging service, WhatsApp, which is owned by Meta, is actively working on a feature that would allow iPhone users to modify their messages after they have been transmitted through the service.

Apple provided the capability to modify or unsend previously sent iMessages with the release of iOS 16 on September 16, 2016. Moreover, Telegram has a function that enables messages to be edited after they have been sent.

It seems that WhatsApp will be the next company to be targeted.

Users will have to press and hold on to a chat bubble, then pick the Edit option in order to amend a message that they have already sent. According to WaBetaInfo, WhatsApp users should expect to be able to change a message for up to 15 minutes after sending it.

This is the same amount of time that Apple allows customers who wish to alter sent messages in iMessage. In comparison, Telegram offers its users a full 48 hours to make any necessary edits to their messages.

Due to the fact that the feature is still being developed, there is no information regarding when it will be made available to the general public. However, the ability to edit messages that have already been sent will be included in an upcoming update of the WhatsApp app that will be made available to some WhatsApp beta testers.

It has been said that WhatsApp is now testing out the concept of private newsletters, which is another development connected to Meta. WABetaInfo spotted code in a recent beta version of Android that had references to the feature. The feature is defined as a private zone in the Status tab that enables users to exchange information with followers.

This week, WhatsApp started rolling out support for picture-in-picture, which enables users to continue their video conversation in a tiny window while doing something else on their iPhone.
