In a drive to entice wealthy overseas investors to the region’s largest economy, Indonesian officials revealed on Monday that the country had issued the first golden visa to CEO of OpenAI Sam Altman.
As a result of the potential contributions that Altman would make in Indonesia to the development of artificial intelligence (AI), the head of the Department of Immigrants in Indonesia, Silmy Karim, has stated in a statement that he has issued Altman a visa valid for a period of ten years.
According to Karim, Golden Visa holders do not need to submit an application for interim stay permission at the immigration department after they arrive in Indonesia because they are already in possession of the visa.
If the statement is to be believed, the individual, who is 38 years old, would be able to use the golden visa to bypass the queues of people waiting to be processed for customs at airports in Indonesia and fly into and out of the country more rapidly.
Golden visas have been made available to entrepreneurs in Indonesia, allowing them to remain in the country for a period of five years after investing $2.5 million and a period of ten years after spending twice that amount.
According to the officials, the nation intends to establish a society and ecosystem in that region as the artificial intelligence sector expands across the globe.
According to a story from Mint, although Altman has yet to make public his ambitions to invest in Indonesia, the fact that he traveled to Jakarta to deliver an address on the future of artificial intelligence implies that he is extremely keen on the country’s technological environment.
The visa could facilitate the formation of collaborations that contribute to the enhancement of Indonesia’s image in the artificial intelligence (AI) and technology sectors.
Under Altman’s leadership, OpenAI has garnered interest on a global scale thanks to its promotion of financial investments in artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure.
One of the products that this business has developed is a tool called ChatGPT, which has revolutionized the way that artificial intelligence is studied by employing enormous data centers to imitate the behavior of intelligent humans.
As a consequence of this, substantial investments have been made on a global scale to construct and extend infrastructures that support artificial intelligence (AI).
